VFAF's Lt. Col Berney Flowers was a featured speaker at a Maryland Human Trafficking awareness program

Lt. Col. Berney Flowers is a retired U.S. Air Force officer who served nearly 21 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and was notably present at the Pentagon during the 9/11 attacks. After his military career, he transitioned to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where he served as NORAD & USNORTHCOM's Senior Representative to DHS Headquarters, contributing to efforts like refugee resettlement for Afghans, Haitians, and undocumented migrants. Flowers has been involved with Veterans for America First, also known as Veterans for Trump, which endorsed his candidacy for U.S. Congress in Maryland's 3rd Congressional District. Flowers currently serves as the VFAF National Political Director. His congressional political campaign was marked by his advocacy for conservative values, as detailed in his book, "Black Values Matter," where he argues that black Americans are inherently conservative and discusses the failures of both political parties in addressing the needs of urban black communities. Flowers ran for Congress in the 2024 Republican primary but did not secure the nomination

Human trafficking at the U.S. border remains a significant human rights issue, as criminal networks exploit vulnerable individuals seeking better opportunities. Traffickers often prey on migrants, particularly women and children, using deception, coercion, or force to subject them to forced labor or sexual exploitation. The border's complexity, coupled with the desperation of those fleeing violence, poverty, or persecution, creates opportunities for traffickers to operate. Efforts to combat trafficking involve cooperation between federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and local authorities, focusing on victim identification, preventive measures, and prosecuting perpetrators. Despite these efforts, the issue persists, requiring continued vigilance, resources, and international collaboration
