Lt. Col. Berney Flowers (Ret.) – A Voice for Veterans and America First on Newsmax
Lt. Col. Berney Flowers (Ret.), the National Director of Political Affairs for Veterans for America First (VFAF), is no stranger to leadership, public service, and patriotism. With nearly 40 years of combined military, government, and civic experience, Flowers brings a commanding voice to the national stage—most recently appearing on Newsmax to speak on issues surrounding illegal immigration, border insecurity, and public safety.
A 21-year veteran of the United States Air Force, Flowers served with distinction in global operations across Iraq, Afghanistan, and Ukraine. He was stationed in 22 countries and 43 U.S. states, culminating his career at the Pentagon where he was assigned to the U.S. Air Force “Air Staff” during the September 11th terrorist attack. His global military service transitioned seamlessly into a civilian national security role at the Department of Defense, where he served as a Senior Technical Advisor at both USCYBERCOM and NORAD/U.S. Northern Command.
Flowers is a recognized expert in cybersecurity and emergency response, particularly in handling refugee crises and migration at the U.S. southern border. His tenure with the Department of Homeland Security included serving as a senior advisor to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. He later resigned over policy disagreements, citing concerns about the administration’s failure to secure the border and protect American communities.
In August 2024, Flowers was appointed as the National Director of Political Affairs and Maryland State Chapter President for Veterans for America First, a national nonprofit organization advocating for strong American values, law enforcement support, and veteran empowerment. In this role, he has become a leading voice for the America First movement, appearing frequently in conservative media outlets, including Newsmax and Real News with Lucretia Hughes.
Flowers is also an accomplished author. His book, Black Values Matter, challenges mainstream narratives and promotes traditional values rooted in faith, family, and freedom. He is the host of the podcast The Loyal Opposition, where he tackles pressing political and cultural topics from a constitutional conservative perspective.
In addition to his national advocacy work, Flowers has been active in Maryland politics. He was a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in both the 2nd and 3rd Districts, served on the Howard County Republican Central Committee, and was appointed to Maryland’s District 9 Judicial Nominating Commission. His deep commitment to civic leadership includes mentoring first-generation college students and serving on the External Advisory Board of his alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
A decorated officer, dedicated public servant, and unapologetic advocate for veterans and secure borders, Lt. Col. Berney Flowers continues to make an impact. His appearances on Newsmax reflect his ongoing mission: to put America—and its veterans—first.
