VFAF Legislative Alert: Vote No on Maryland House Bills HB 387 and HB 937

Second Amendment Patriots Legislative Alert
Greetings fellow 2-A Patriots! It’s been a while since I last wrote but we’ve been busy electing a pro-Second Amendment president, US Senate & House, and working hard to protect our freedoms in the Maryland General Assembly. Which brings me to this Legislative Alert …..

On Thursday, February 13, at 1 PM, the Maryland House Ways & Means Committee will hear two bills which if passed will create additional and punitive taxes on firearms, accessories and ammunition. The bills will have a detrimental impact on jobs in Maryland.

HB 387 – Comprehensive Community Safety Funding Act will impose, in addition to the 6% sales tax, an excise tax of 11% on the sale of firearms from dealers in the state and on sales from outside the state to residents of Maryland.

HB 937 – Sales and Use Tax – Firearms, Firearm Accessories, and Ammunition – Rate Alteration will increase the sales and use tax rate to 12% on firearms, accessories and ammunition.

These new taxes are in ADDITION to the 11% excise tax already imposed by the Pittman-Robertson Act. Proponents of the bills argue that these taxes will fund programs to decrease gun violence – but all they will do is drive firearm retailers and manufacturers out of the state – could this be their real intention? With the loss of jobs in our state, I wonder how the legislature will be able to address the state’s severe budget deficit.

Please contact your legislators and members of the House Ways & Means Committee today and tell them, politely, to oppose HB 387 and HB 937!

Many thanks for your help. Please pass this on to your family, friends and folks on your lists!!
