Labor Unions once had a purpose in early 1900s. That purpose was to protect workers from mistreatment and dangerous work conditions. Their legitimate purpose is no longer necessary with OSHA, EPA, Workers Compensation, Dept of Labor, etc that codify or regulate for those safety/ treatment concerns. Promotion on merit is lost for the benefit of a collective. Only the lazy are protected from termination. Glass ceilings are multiplied and installed in mass.

I am bothered by how many Conservative Republicans support Labor Unions and any strike. They rob employees' paychecks for "protection." Tony Soprano would fit right in.

Unions are categorically Socialist, and a barrier to free trade and innovation. The International Longshoreman Association (ILA) and U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX) are fighting to increase wages (up to 50%) in response to inflation, BUT they are fighting their employers from automating certain jobs at the ports. This stymies innovation.

Both the ILA and USMX is controlled/ pressured by global forces that are obviously not America First minded. Union leaders openly threatened to "cripple" US distribution of goods and the US economy.

There is no place for Labor Unions in a free market economy. They are unamerican Socialist constructs being used to extort US Businesses and harm the American People.

Re-hire and fire every Longshoreman who doesn't show up to work. Corporations have a right to operate and produce. Those crossing the line should be protected and even celebrated.

The leverage held by the labor unions controlling the ports illustrates the need for American manufacturing. Tariffs on foreign goods will motivate domestic production. That will reduce the crippling leverage from labor unions we are currently experiencing and empower the US globally.
