During the September 11, 2001 attacks, Berney was assigned to the U.S. Air Force’s “Air Staff” at the Pentagon. After nearly 21 years of active duty, he retired from the U.S. Air Force, having deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and visited twenty-two countries and forty-three states in the performance of his duties.
Following his Air Force retirement, he transitioned to the banking industry as a project manager. In 2009, he returned to the Department of Defense as a civil servant, contributing to the initial staff of U.S. Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM). He later served as the Senior Technical Advisor for NORAD & U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) at Fort Meade. Before retiring from the DoD, he played a significant role in refugee resettlement efforts for Afghans, Haitians, and undocumented migrants along the U.S. Southwest Border.
In 2021, Maryland’s Governor appointed him to the District 9 Judicial Nominating Commission in Howard County, Maryland. He authored the book “Black Values Matter” and authors and creates, with the help from his team, an impressive podcast titled, “The Loyal Opposition.”
In 2024, Berney Flowers joined the team of Veterans for America First VFAF.US and was named Director of National Political Affairs. Berney is also the President of the Maryland State Chapter of Veterans for America First
Berney is also a Newsmax commentator, Producer of VFAF Veterans for Trump – The Movement and served as Senior DHS advisor to Secretary Mayorkas.
