Veterans For America First , Veterans For Trump Hero of the Month, July 2023: Ensign John McLarty Williams, Esq., WWII Navy Pilot

I am proud to announce our July Hero of the Month, John McLarty Williams on his 100th birthday celebration this weekend.

Williams enlisted in the Navy on December 3, 1942. Williams qualified to fly the TBM-3E Avenger Warbird torpedo bomber. Williams earned the rank of Ensign prior to being discharged at the end of WWII.

Following his military service, Williams furthered his education by attending and graduating Emory Law School in 1949. Williams became a member of the Georgia Bar Association in that year and began his law career working for Alton Drake, a prominent Atlanta Attorney at that time.

Williams purchased the Drake Law Firm and then founded his own law firm with Edward Savell in 1952. Williams worked in the field of Workman’s Compensation from its very beginning in Georgia and his work distilled that legal field into what it is today. Savell & Williams, LLP is still in operation today with the oldest continuous business telephone number in the City of Atlanta, 521-1282.

Williams had been honored by the Lawyers Club of Atlanta for his contributions to his legal work and named Defense Attorney of the Year in 1990.

Williams and his wife, Norma Williams had 3 children that produced 10 grandchildren. As of today, Williams has 42 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren (+2 on the way). No one gets their own birthday with a family this size and we are running out of names.

Williams raised his family in Atlanta, Georgia before relocating to his family’s farm located in Moreland, Georgia in 1979, where he remains to live. Six generations of family have lived on this farm.

Williams continues to travel regularly and remains active. Recently Williams was honored in Chicago as the 2023 Grand Marshall of the Armed Forces Day Parade.

To continue his 100th birthday celebration, Williams is taking a cruise from Boston to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland with over 20 members of his family, if they can keep up.
