Scott Presler and VFAF's Jacqueline Capriotti welcome Carlos Camacho to Veterans for America First New Jersey Team

Carlos Camacho joins Veterans for America First as a National Ambassador

Carlos Camacho Jr. is a seasoned diesel mechanic and strategic advocate with a strong background in engineering, construction, and safety operations. His hands-on expertise spans technical craftsmanship and problem-solving, developed through years of experience in the mechanical and construction trades.

Carlos is the Co-Founder and Chief Communications Officer of the SS United States Preservation Foundation Inc., where he leads national efforts to preserve America’s maritime heritage and honor the legacy of the United States Merchant Marine. He also serves as the New Jersey Ambassador for Latinos for America First, bringing coalition-building and policy advocacy to the forefront of his work.

Through close relationships with members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Carlos has launched a national campaign to rescue the SS United States from destruction during America’s 250th anniversary. His legislative proposal, the America 250 Maritime Heritage Act, outlines a plan to transform the vessel into a national center for veteran reintegration—providing mental health services, job training, housing support, and trade school access aboard the historic ship.

Carlos’s advocacy also seeks to honor World War II-era merchant mariners, many of whom were formally recognized as veterans but never awarded full military honors or medals. He is working to change that—using truth, history, and legislative action to ensure their sacrifice is remembered and respected.

His commitment to veterans is deeply personal. Military service runs through his family, with close ties to the Navy, Army, and Marine Corps. This heritage fuels his mission to fight for those who have been forgotten after their service—whether through homelessness, addiction, suicide, or joblessness. Through partnerships with organizations like Quilts of Valor and his national policy efforts, Carlos is building structural solutions that restore dignity, opportunity, and remembrance for every veteran.

Guided by faith, patriotism, and a relentless commitment to justice, Carlos believes that honoring the past is not symbolic—it is restorative, urgent, and essential to the future of this nation.
